The teacher who started a reading hour

Namakau was a primary school teacher who noticed that children in her compound had no books at home. She started a reading hour every Saturday under a mango tree.

Six children came the first week. By the third month, nineteen children were attending. Parents started joining. A local shop donated a shelf of books.

The reading hour became the compound's most important appointment.
